15 Best Gifts for Girls Ages 5–8 They’ll Actually Love

Shopping for girls between 5 and 8 can be so much fun, but it can also get surprisingly tricky. They’re past many of the little-kid toys, but they’re not quite in the tween stage either. And somewhere during these years, they start having very specific opinions about what they like. 😂

When I’m looking for Gifts for Girls Ages 5–8, I want things that will actually come out of the box and get used, not another toy that gets forgotten in the corner two days later.

At these ages, creative projects, building sets, games, collectibles, STEM activities and toys that let kids express their personalities are especially worth considering.

Gift Ideas for 5–6-Year-Old Girls

For the younger end of this range, I’d lean toward Gifts for Girls Ages 5–8 that offer plenty of freedom to play.

Building toys, beginner crafts, pretend-play sets, simple games and art supplies are great places to start.

Five- and six-year-olds are also beginning to tackle more complicated activities. Good Housekeeping’s current age-specific guides emphasize building, movement, creativity, STEM activities and hands-on projects for these ages.

Gift Ideas for 7–8-Year-Old Girls

Seven and eight can feel completely different.

Kids often have stronger interests by this point. One child might be obsessed with crafts while another loves sports, science, LEGO, books or collectibles.

DIY is particularly prominent in current recommendations for this age group. Good Housekeeping’s 2026 guides for 7- and 8-year-old girls feature bracelet making, art projects, STEM activities, games, room accessories and collectibles.

That’s why I wouldn’t worry too much about finding something that says “girl” on the package. Shop for her interests instead.

Choosing Gifts They’ll Actually Use

My favorite Gifts for Girls Ages 5–8 are usually things kids can interact with more than once.

A LEGO set can become part of a larger collection. Art supplies get used for dozens of projects. A bracelet kit becomes something to do with friends. A game can become part of family game night.

And before ordering, always check the manufacturer’s current recommended age and safety information for the specific product you’re considering.
